The QuickTime 3.0 Developer Preview Release installer encompasses all of the latest digital media technology from Apple. On the Macintosh the installer includes:

• Sound Manager v3.3
• QuickDraw 3D v1.5.4
With one installer you will now get everything you need for a complete digital media experience.

General information you need to know when using QuickTime.
•This software consists of a Disk Copy NDIF (New Disk Image Format) compressed image, which requires Disk Copy 6.1 or later to use.
•The software is subject to the terms and conditions detailed in the license agreement that accompanies the software.
•Preview means that the product is still under development and can contain bugs. We welcome your feedback on the product, but please be advised that we can not provide support on beta software.
•The software has a time-out feature so that it expires after a certain period of time. The purpose of the time-out is to ensure that you remember to come back and get the latest software release. Time out for this release is February 19, 1998.
•Ensure that you follow the installation instructions provided here.
•Depending on net-site traffic, you could experience delays when trying to download the preview software. The amount of time it takes you to download the preview software depends on the speed of your connection to the Internet.
•This software is not for distribution with any product. Please review the license agreement at <http://quicktime.apple.com/preview/licmac.htm> for more information.

Installation Instructions
1.Download Disk Copy 6.1. Available from <http://quicktime.apple.com/preview/macpre1.htm>.
2.Select Download QuickTime Now from the Preview page at <http://quicktime.apple.com/preview/macpre1.htm>. The file QT_3.0b11.img will appear on your system.
3.Drag the QT_3.0b11.img icon onto the utility. A disk image of the installer (named "QuickTime Install Disk") is displayed on your desktop.
4.Double-click on the QuickTime Install Disk icon. The image will open.
5.Double-click the Installer icon to open it.
6.Read the first screen and click continue.
7.Read the Software License. If you agree with the terms and conditions, click agree.
8.Ensure that Easy Install is displayed in the pop-up menu. The Easy Install will install only the
supported software for your particular system.
9.Click the install button.
10.The files are installed. When you see the message that the installation was successful, click the restart button.
11.In order to use the QuickTime Plug-In, drag it from the QuickTime folder into the plug-in folder for your browser. Check out Using the QuickTime Plug-In at <http://quicktime.apple.com/preview/conchart.htm>.

Throughout the duration of the QuickTime 3.0 Preview Release, a special e-mail address will be active (qt3beta@apple.com). You may use this address to send suggestions and comments and to report any problems you have encountered while using the preview release of QuickTime 3.0. All e-mail sent to qt3beta@apple.com will be reviewed by the QuickTime engineering team.
Note: Due to the large quantity of e-mail expected, we cannot guarantee an individual response to every e-mail.
When reporting a problem, please be sure to include the information outlined below. Without this information, it may be impossible to investigate your problem.
Reporting a Problem on Macintosh
• Describe your Mac OS system configuration. Including:
-Your Macintosh model (e.g., Power Macintosh 8500, Performa 580)
-Your Mac OS version (e.g., System 7.6.1, System 8.0)
-Your internet browser and version (e.g., Internet Explorer, version 3.0.1)
-Your memory configuration (e.g., 48 MB of RAM)
-Your video and sound settings (e.g., 640x480 resolution, Thousands of colors;
-16-bit sound, 44.1 kHz)
Any additional video or sound hardware installed in your computer
• Provide detailed instructions for recreating the problem.

Developer Mailing Lists
Apple has created two electronic mailing lists that support the open exchange of ideas and experiences within the community of QuickTime software developers. As a member of one of the electronic list services, you are able to submit questions to the other list participants and can

About Roland's Sound Set for General MIDI and GS Format
This release of QuickTime includes an instrument sound set licensed by Roland Corporation that makes a complete General MIDI compatible sound set. It also includes additional sounds necessary to make a complete GS Format compatible sound set.
What is the GS Format?
The GS Format is a standardized set of specifications for sound sources that defines the manner in which multitimbral sound generating devices will respond to the MIDI messages. The GS Format also complies with the General MIDI System Level - 1. The GS Format also defines a number of other details over and above the features of General MIDI. These include unique specifications for sound and functions available for tone editing, effects, and other specifications concerning the manner in which sound sources will respond to MIDI messages. Any device that is equipped with GS Format sound sources can faithfully reproduce both General MIDI sound recordings and GS Format MIDI sound recordings.
